VicSouth Desert Spring Star Party weather

last updated 2011 July 10

We're frequently asked about the weather prospects for the next VicSouth and what the weather was like at previous VicSouths. In a word, varied. So far we've had days up to 40C, nights down to -5C, totally clear skies all night, totally clear skies until midnight (or totally clear skies from midnight), thunderstorms, fogs, scattered clouds, pre-cold-front thin cirrus, mild sunny days, rainy days, even a nearby bushfire (luckily downwind of us).
VicSouth is held in spring specifically to improve our chances of dry and mild weather; and so far we've always had a clear night sky at some time on at least two of the nights.

Skippy Sky offers continuously updated forecasts of cloud cover and other astronomically relevant weather parameters for many parts of Australia.

MODIS imagery from NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites is able to resolve individual daytime clouds. For examples see here.
